Nor must you tolerate the presence at your rallies of anarchists or other demagogic extremists who preach violence of any kind.\nA recent mirror: during the fall of that formidable police state that was the East German communist regime, an anti-regime protest demonstration of over 100,000 took place in early October 1989 in the city of Leipzig. The East German army NVA and the Stasi secret police wanted to use machine guns to disperse the crowds, but feared the political backlash. Their great hope was that the demonstrators themselves would start the violence and give them an engraved invitation to move in.\nBut the Leipzig demonstrators remained steadfastly non-violent, and the communist party bosses did not dare give the order to start shooting. In two weeks dictator Erich Honecker was ousted and replaced. Before the end of the month, 1 million protesters were in the streets of East Berlin, and a few weeks after that the Berlin Wall had fallen and the East German communist regime had disintegrated after 40 years. \nAdvice to the Resistance\nFirst a quick overview of strategic advice offered by a number of public figures:\nDavid Brooks, NYT: US needs a ”comprehensive national civic uprising” against MAGA\nIllinois Gov. Pritzker: ”It’s time to fight everywhere and all at once…. Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption. But I am now. Goldman (D-NY): Talked about the ”Twenty-fifth Amendment” in Fox News discussion of Trump’s 100 Days\nBrace for retaliation from the dictatorship: According to former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, the regime eyed opening fire on unarmed protestors when he was SecDef. The deporting without due process of opponents who are US citizens has also been considered, as documented in public media; Open season on arresting judges has begun; Deportation Czar Homan is openly threatening to arrest governors and mayors over the sanctuary city issue; Former Rep. David Jolly has speculated that, if no budget has been enacted, Trump might simply attempt to dictate spending by Executive Order, which would blatantly violate US Constitution.\nA relevant passage from the US Constitution:\n”ARTICLE 2, SECTION 4. The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”\nOther important tools include the XIV Amendment, Section 3 (the Insurrection Clause) and the XXV Amendment (Presidential succession and disability).\nTrump is demanding expulsion from House of impeachment backers Reps. MAGA treats allies as enemies and enemies as allies, and their hostility to the Holy See can hardly be doubted. The Vatican needs to maintain independence from the current US ruling clique.\nPope Francis famously chastened Trump for his xenophobia and ethnic cleansing by remarking that anyone who talks only of walls and not of bridges cannot be considered a Christian. This idea has been repeated in the eulogy for Pope Francis delivered by Cardinal Re at the pontiff’s funeral today. An American would be far less capable of formulating such a necessary critique.\nSome of the dangers involved do not only derive from Trump, but are structural in nature. They could have emerged from the sponsorship of Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston at the 2013 conclave by the Donilon brothers, Terrence as the cardinal’s advisor and Tom as Obama’s National Security Council Director. But this never materialized, with Francis being elected.\nWestern civilization differentiated itself during the late 400s AD from the Byzantine Empire in the east through the separation of the spiritual and religious power of the papacy from the political-military or temporal power of the duke, king or Holy Roman Emperor. The king is one person, and the pope is a different person, and they often fight. When they do fight, people have to decide which side to join. This has proven to be an encouragement to the separation of powers and freedom of thought in the west. \nIn the Byzantine world, the patriarch or religious leader is a servant of the emperor or tsar, in the way we see Patriarch Kirill or Cyril act as a political operative for the Emperor Putin. An American pope under current conditions might merge the spiritual and temporal powers similar in abusive ways. \nThe separation of spiritual from temporal power is associated with Pope Gelasius I and a letter he sent to the Byzantine Emperor in 494 AD, not long after the end of the Roman Empire in the west. This theme became crucial for Dante Alighieri some eight centuries later, when the Papacy was taken over by France.\nToday a pope from Africa or Asia would make far more sense. Otherwise, Europe is in a phase of self-assertion in response to Trump, and needs moral guidance. But no Americans until the political situation here has been resolved.\nOust Witkoff and Provide Full Support for Ukraine\nThe American people have no confidence in the New York landlord and amateur diplomat Witcoff, a rank tyro who negotiates solo — no State Department, no area specialists, no military attache’ — literally only a translator — against KGB veteran Putin and his advisors. For Putin, this has been like taking candy from a baby.\nThere is word today that Trump’s brief meeting — encouraged by Macron and Starmer — with Ukrainian President Zelensky may have been constructive. As we show below, Trump is in desperate need of some political success to relive the monotony of his skein of humiliating defeats. He would do himself a big favor by making a sharp anti-Russian turn and by supporting Ukraine, NATO, EU, and Europe while dumping his destructive tariffs.\nTrump and Witkoff have given away the ranch in their secret talks with Putin. US policy must instead be based on the following: Ukraine must be present at all talks involving Ukraine. No other power can bind Ukraine. Russia can have nothing to say about the policy of Kyiv. No extortion of Ukraine for rare earths by US or anyone else. Payments that were given as grants or gifts cannot be retroactively transformed into loans. NATO and EU must welcome Ukraine as a full member with Article 5 security guarantee. No territorial concessions to Russia that can only encourage aggression, as with an attack by Beijing on Taiwan. As when the USSR departed from Afghanistan in 1987, all Russian troops must immediately depart from Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporzhiya, and Kherson. No more air attacks on Ukraine. No demontage of Ukrainian factories or infrastructure. Full freedom of navigation on Danube, Black Sea, Straits of Kerch, and Sea of Azov. No interference with grain shipments. Reparations for Ukraine to be paid by transferring Russian assets frozen in west into Ukrainian hands. Russian class A war criminals to be brought to justice. Speedy repatriation of Ukrainian children, POWs, and all others kidnapped by Russian forces. Maintain economic and banking sanctions on Russia to ensure full compliance.\nA Hundred Days of Infamy\nTrump’s approval is now at 40% according to Pew and 37% according to Reuters, and is in free fall. He has lost his edge on issues like economics and immigration, and his appeasement of Putin on Ukraine has generated genuine revulsion. Only 29% of independents approve. His tactic of attempting shock and awe attacks against all his adversaries simultaneously has backfired spectacularly. His unpopularity is being visited on GOP/MAGA congressmen and senators, who now fear for their own 2028 re-election as they are execrated at their own town meetings if they still hold them. It is a panorama of MAGA rout.\nSenate Democrats under Schumer have avoided the trap of shutting down government and dispersing the Congress, leaving Trump to rule by decree for an open-ended number of months. Ultra-lefts are showing themselves utterly mindless on this issue.\nMusk’s much-touted Wall of Receipts has been a tissue of lies and exaggerations regarding his alleged austerity and layoff exploits. His goal was originally $2 trillion in cuts but has dwindled into a tiny fraction of that.\nDOGE posted a list of 400 federal properties up for sale, including key buildins of USDA, HHS, Department of Labor, and many others. These were described as up for sale but the list was reduced and finally removed as a result of public and insider backlash. Trump pushes chaos but can be deterred by public indignation.\nA pro-Constitution Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate won her race by 10%, a large margin for that state. Two Florida House special elections showed a 10% plus swing toward Democrats.\nGleichschaltung fails: Trump has lost his automatic Supreme Court puppet majority by a 9-0 vote to affirm due process in the Garcia case, reaffirmed by a 7-2 vote to return Garcia to US. Senate and House MAGA locksteps have broken up over whether Congress should re-assert its power over tariffs, recently usurped by Trump.\nWith Trump’s betrayal of Ukraine and appeasement of Russian aggression EU, Japan, and others not kow-towing to MAGA, are stepping forward to fill the deficit of support.\nGrotesque threats of aggression and annexation against Canada, Panama, Greenland, Denmark, Canada, and Mexico are widely regarded as pathological, and have demolished Trump’s carefully fabricated former profile of opponent of forever wars of choice.\nRepeated flip-flops on tariffs with trillions of dollars of lost share prices and balances in voters’ IRA/401(k) retirement accounts; all post-election stock gains wiped out\nThe Weather Service has been crippled by cuts. He has failed to contain the Texas measles outbreak. His remarks on vaccines can only increase vaccine reticence in many parts of this country, and he ought to be fired on these grounds alone. He has wiped out an entire generation of critical researchers, many of whom may flee abroad. Disruption of research in this way is a true crime against humanity, since it immediately impacts all of humanity.\nBirthright citizenship (ius soli) under the XIV Amendment, attacked by Trump, has been affirmed affirmed by at least 4 federal courts. The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on May 15. If they are realy the textualists and originalists they claim to be, they must honor the plain meaning of this provision. Otherwise, we will be forced back to the infamous Dred Scott decision of 1857 — an intolerable denial of justice and an affront to the sacrifices of the Union dead.\nTrump is repeating threats to violate the XXII Amendment’s 2-term limit, buttressing the widespread view that he is hostile to the Constitution in general. This attempt must be rebuffed.\nRecent polls shows at about 80% of the public believes president must obey court orders issued by federal judges, which he continues to evade.\nTrump is losing 80% of federal court cases brought against his infamous shock and awe campaign of wrecking the US federal government.\nFederal district judges Boasberg and Xinis in DC and Maryland are moving closer to civil and criminal contempt charges against MAGA minions; Trump may be immune but his underlings are not. These judges must act with no delay.\nTrump has hit the trifecta of financial destruction by simultaneously reducing stock prices, the value of the dollar, and the prices of US Treasury bills, notes, and bonds; Wall Street analysts think that a 20% fall in stock prices from recent highs (i.e. a bear market) would tend to shatter political support for Trump. The main market indices have come close to this line, but have not crossed it so far.\nSocial Security phone service was cut to harrass new beneficiaries and prevent them from signing up, but then was restored. Remember that delays in benefits amount to cuts, breaking Trump’s repeated promises not to cut.\nTrump’s campaign to fire Powell of the Federal Reserve is failing. Wall Street regards regards the Fed as its own private property and does not intend to share control with Trump. Treasury Secretary Bessent is reported to have warned Trump that attempting to oust Powell would crash the markets, and he appears to be backing off.\nTrump’s crude anti-intellectual extortion of colleges and universities has been met by defiance first from Wesleyan-Princeton-Harvard, growing then into an anti-Trump movement of c. 300 schools, including the entire Ivy League and many SUNY branches; the threats to Harvard were later claimed to have been a mistake, but were kept in force anyway; The 18 Big Ten state schools plan a defensive alliance vs White House.\nLaura Loomer reportedly convinced Trump to decapitate US electronic intel by firing both NSA-Cybercommand chief Gen Haugh USAF and his deputy, one of the most capable teams in the business-thus doing Moscow and Beijing a big favor. Congressional hearings are required to instigate what is happening. The MAGA administration has reduced vigilance vs Russia in numerous ways, all of which should be rolled back.\n9/11 first responders first had their health care cut, but Trump was then forced to restore it amid public protest.\n80,000 firings at the Veterans Administration were announced and may be continuing.\nHegseth first announced Pentagon budget cuts of 8% per year for 5 years, but this has not been reflected in the MAGA budget resolution for FY 2025-2026.\nEbola crisis workers have been wantonly fired.\nMusk is being driven out of Washington even as his Tesla business craters. Musk has reportedly been embroiled in conflict with cabinet officers who resent his meddling with their budgets and personnel. He has feuded with Bannon of MAGA’s plebeian wing. Musk has clashed with Rubio over US-AID, Duffy over air traffic controllers, and Navarro over tariffs. Musk’s obligatory ”Five things I did last week” reports have largely ceased to be submitted. Musk’s pick Shapley was made IRS chief, but was replaced within 3 days by Bessent’s candidate. Bessent’s alleged shouting match with Musk may have been the most acrimonious clash so far.\nThe Gaetz nomination for Attorney General was dropped even before Trump’s inauguration, amid widespread allegations of moral turpitude. Rep. Weldon’s bid for the CDC job also collapsed before it reached the Senate.\nThe wrong acting FBI boss was announced, but he was then allowed to serve anyway.\nNuclear safety personnel were fired and an attempt was then made to re-hire some of them.\nBird flu researchers were fired, then invited back.\nMusk’s DOGE gang at one point claimed $8 billion in cuts but fell far short; His website for bragging about austerity is now the object of bitter derision as he prepares to return to his battered corporations. \nTrump’s memo on January 28 to rescind all spending on federal grants caused widespread chaos but was rolled back within a few days under intense public pressure, establishing the pattern that a weakened and beleaguered Trump can be made to back down and cave by a determined mobilization of public opinion.\nThere has been a total estimated turnout of 6-7 million anti-regime protesters and counting this year; This figure may already exceed 2017’s 100-day total.\nDuring his 2024 campaign, Trump had floated 15 to 20 million as a target for his deportations campaign, with estimates of at least a million for his first year. Figures published in The Bulwark at the end of April suggest that total deportations probably do not exceed a meager 100,000, and may be far fewer. This means that Trump’s ethnic cleansing hysteria has added up — despite pervasive human suffering and violations of law — to an abject failure. To camouflage this debacle, the regime has sought opportunities for outrageous legal and humanitarian atrocities like the Garcia case to convince their gullible followers that something is being done. But as of now, public opinion in general has been disgusted by these very tactics, with a Reuters poll showing that Trump has gone under water on immigration, with 46% disapproving and 45% approving. The London Economist/YouGov poll shows Trump 5 points underwater on immigration, with a plurality of 49% seeing his methods as ”too harsh.” Media hype from Miller, Homan, Bondi, Noem, and other retainers has not helped. The American people are far from being as degraded as MAGA had hoped.\nWith the administration discredited on BOTH immigrant deportation AND inflation reduction, the twin pillars of MAGA demagogy have been largely smashed. The old Republican Party has been supplanted by the unsavory and incompetent MAGA personality cult, but in the light of the catastrophic 100 Days’ events, post-Trump MAGA extinction is now highly plausible, re-defining the US’ Seventh Party System since the Hamilton vs. Jefferson divide emerged in 1792.\nThe result is no golden age, but gathering darkness. These hundred days recall Napoleon Bonaparte’s 100 days, starting with his return to power in 1815 after his escape from exile on the Mediterranean island of Elba, leading to his final defeat at Waterloo, Belgium and a second exile on the British island of St. Helena in the far South Atlantic. There is little in common with Franklin D. Roosevelt’s epic effort to fight the Great Depression over the classic 100 days starting with his inauguration on March 4, 1933. | Growing Panorama of US Resistance vs. MAGA Oppression After Successful April 15 Mobilization at 400 Social Security Offices in Bid to Save Program From Musk \u0026 Minions, #50501 \u0026 Hands Off Maintain Pushback Against Dictatorship With Saturday Day of “No Kings”; Partial Estimate Sets Turnout at 2 Million | Supremes issue 7-2 order to halt Trump deportation dragnet under 1798 Alien Enemies Act with no due process;\nFederal Reserve Chairman Powell condemns Trump tariffs as bringers of stagflation, with low growth and higher inflation; Wall Street telegraphs to Trump that firing Powell will trigger market panic;\nJudge Boasberg begins criminal contempt procedure against Bondi’s rogue DoJ hacks; their interrogation under oath envisaged, with penalties for perjury\nSen. On April 9, the New York Times headlined an interview with him with ”The University President Willing to Fight Trump.” Thanks to this cover, Harvard was encouraged to defy Trump this past week.\nFascism vs. The Legislative Branch\nClassic cases of fascist dictatorship show that full totalitarian control cannot be imposed unless and until the legislature-parliament-congress has been dispersed or neutralized and rule by decree or executive order instituted. Mussolini started this in June 1924 by allowing the assassination of Giacomo Matteotti, the leader of the anti-fascist opposition in the Chamber of Deputies. In the German case, Hitler was awarded the power to enact laws all by himself, without a vote in the Reichstag (parliament), by the Enabling Act of March 23, 1933. In France, the National Assembly ended the Third Republic, dissolved itself, and gave total power to Marshal Petain by a majority vote on July 10, 1940 in a theater in the south-central French spa town of Vichy. In Egypt more recently, the attempted coup d’etat by the aspiring dictator Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood began in November 2012 when Morsi declared that he could enact laws on his own, without the need for any judicial review. Other cases could be adduced.\nIf the Senate Democrats led by Schumer had not approved a continuing resolution for FY 2025 in the March 14 vote, the US would now be a month into a regime of rule by decree with no Congress and an even weaker judiciary. No Dem has attempted a serious refutation of Schumer’s thesis that a permanent government shutdown would have been the worst of the available choices. But irresponsible ultra-lefts took advantage of the necessary action to advance their own demagogic ambition, as is their custom. No ultra-left we are aware of has offered a plan for getting the government working again in the face of Trump’s repeated vetoes after a shutdown.\nSince Democrats want and deserve action against MAGA, House leader Jeffries should immediately seize control of 2-3 media cycles by calling a vote to vacate the chair (i.e. oust Speaker MAGA Mike) no matter what the result–which he can do any day of the week, no matter what pro-Wall Street Dems may say;\nFor the anti-Trump movement to grow, the failed business model of ultra-left sectarian fratricide since 2018 must be studiously avoided. Attacks must be directed towards the dictatorship and its backers, not against allies, however imperfect, in the struggle. Internecine fights weaken the opposition and help the enemy. But ultra-lefts know that attacks against other Democrats will be heavily publicized by the Wall Street-controlled corporate media as a means of weakening\nEven Indivisible wasted resources needed to fight MAGA to pick a fight with Schumer. Now we have gun control activist David Hogg–with the predictable media fanfare–pledging to use his war chest of $20 million to primary Democrats he considers not sufficiently militant-a tragic blunder at the very least. Did his donors know their cash would be used for things like this? Clearly the DNC leadership should take steps to re-establish party discipline, including message discipline and fundraising discipline. | April 5 “Hands Off” Protests Ongoing With 150 Groups in 1,300 Demos in Half a Dozen Countries Trump Risks World Depression With Chaotic and Irrational Import Taxes; New Improvised Tariff List is Biggest Tax Hike in US History, All by Decree; Upheaval is Worst Shock to World Economy Since Nixon and Kissinger Destroyed FDR’s 1944 Bretton Woods World Monetary System on August 15, 1971, Triggering Decade of Stagflation, Price Shocks, and Instability; Austerity Psychosis: DOGErs Target Social Security With Sabotage of Benefits and Inevitable Political Backlash; | Friday’s Dow 2231 fall was third worst point decline in history; NASDAQ and Russell 2000 lose over 20% each, entering bear market, with S+P down 17% and Dow in correction; “Magnificent Seven” battered;\nEstimates suggest that Trump political support begins to crumble when stock losses exceed 20%;\nIn Florida and Wisconsin, us voters shift 10% to 15% against MAGA; Trump Supreme Sourt faction splitting; four senate GOP defections join condemnation of economic warfare against Canada; bipartisan moves to assert congressional primacy over tariffs;\nBeijing retaliates by matching 54% levied by US; but will weakened Xi use trade conflict as pretext for attack on Taiwan?\nRussian envoy dangles shares in muscovite wealth fund; but Americans want no truck with aggressors;\nHamas executes leader of anti-dictatorship peace march by Palestinian Arabs in Gaza, who deserve western solidarity; ultra-lefts ignore moral and political bankruptcy of HAMAS;\nPentagon IG starts probe of Hegseth Signalgate role; Laura Loomer demands and gets ouster of NSA leader; Walz had some 20 Signal accounts for various hot spots; Putin is still stalling on Ukraine cease fire;\nWhite House trade guru Navarro raves that tariffs are tax cuts; in reality, they are tax increases;\nOctober 1987: Mirror for a Multi-Day, Multi-Week crash\nCNBC’s Cramer compares current moment to Crash of October 1987, when Dow lost 3.8% on Wednesday, 2,39% on Thursday, and 4.6% on Friday.
